How-To Enable Windows Aero Appearance on Vista

So I've got this hot new tablet from Fujitsu but it's got a small problem.  Well, maybe it has a couple problems - after all, nothing is perfect.  But the one that I'm going to talk about today is Aero.  In case you haven't heard, Aero is a cool new theme/appearance that is part of Vista. In order to enjoy this new look, you need a machine with a little power in the graphics department.  Which I figured this new machine would have.  However, I wasn't seeing the new Aero theme.

After a little toying around, I found the problem. It's actually pretty simple.  For whatever reason, Fujitsu shipped the tablet with Aero turned off.  All you need to do is right click on the desktop and select Personalize. Then on the resulting window, select Windows Color and Appearance.  Under Color Scheme, select Windows Aero and then OK and you're off and running with the new Aero theme. If you return to Windows Color and Appearance menu, you will now have some choices regarding the Aero look and feel. Enjoy! Geeked

Hey Mike, i thought that would be the case. I have installed Vista on 6 different laptops (for testing and work) and the same thing has happened. Vista detects any laptop graphics card (when installing fresh) as a "Standrad VGA Card" and therefore you need to install the respective driver, nVida, ATI intel etc... then restart and then manually change it to Aero. Looks like Fujitsu forgot to change it before making the image...oops!

With all those steps, I can see how they forgot to do it.   I'm glad it's nothing major like a different chipset or something.  Cause then I would be screwed!

@ Wally - I'm sorry that this didn't help you with your situation.  Perhaps you could shed a little more light on what exactly you are having problems with, then I might be able to offer some advice.  Wink
