It's not something that I want to do. After all 3G rocks in comparison to EDGE. As long as I get a full day from my battery, I'm going to stay with 3G since the speed is really nice. However, I guess some of you are in an area where there is no 3G coverage, or perhaps your carrier isn't 3G enabled yet. Then perhaps you might want to turn it off an extend the battery life, and you will EXTEND the life. You should get 3 days or so running the phone on just the EDGE network.
There are a couple ways to do this. We'll start with the universal way, which should work on every BlackJack out there. From the Home Screen, dial the following number: * # 1 5 4 6 7 9 2 * # (without any of the spaces - that's there just so you can read it easily.
) You don't need to press the dial button or anything like that. Once you finish entering those numbers you will be presented with a screen titled Admin Settings. You want to select "3 Network & Call Settings" followed by "5 Network Mode". You will then see a screen that has 3 choices, Auto, GSM, and WCDMA. Select GSM and Done and Cancel and you're on your way with no 3G.
The other way to do this is to run the \Windows\AdminSettings.exe application. However, you will need to fully app unlock the BlackJack and use a real file explorer tool like the one from Resco. If you do this, you can also create a shortcut to the program in your start menu and then you'll be able to assign it to the speed dial, making it much easier to toggle.
