Yesterday, for the first time since November 25th, 1976, the Canadian dollar was at par with the American dollar. As a kid, this is something I never thought would happen. Of course, as a kid I didn't understand much about why they weren't already equal to begin with.

Over the last couple years it has looked more and more like the two would eventually meet and maybe even see the Canadian dollar move above the US. I wonder how long it's going to take for the various industries to adjust their prices to reflect the equal price of the dollar? Books and magazines are still charging exchange rates from over 5 years ago. So I don't imagine they'll correct pricing anytime soon. However, companies that look to Canada for services might be changing their tune rather quickly. In the past they would be able to get more for less, but now with the currency's being equal or maybe even having the US drop below Canada could make them think twice and go with the now cheaper domestic option. Heck, it's even going to effect the American's that travel across to Canada to use our casino's. A $5 bet in Canada would have cost $4.75 (or so) in the past. At least our winnings are still tax free!
